Unit 1
The Schools roadshow Evaluations
Netherhall Secondary School - 15/10/18
What went well today and did you enjoy it?
I enjoyed our performance today because the kids in the crowd joined in with clapping in parts where it was just vocals and bass/drums - it felt like they were interested in our performance and they enjoyed it. Everyone in our band was also more lively than they were during rehearsals because we were all stood up instead of sitting down for 3 hours.

What went wrong and could this have been prevented?
The third song (Budapest by George Ezra) felt boring to me because there were no drums in it - if drums were added, it would've made the song more exciting and livened the whole performance up - the kids maybe would've participated more if there was a drum beat behind the song.
Richard Rose Morton Academy - 16/10/18
What went well today and did you enjoy it?
I enjoyed it because we were all more confident in what we were playing than we were at Netherhall so the overall performance sounded better since there were less nerves.

What went wrong and could this have been prevented?
The crowd was worse at audience participation than at Netherhall because no prompts were given to the crowd to start clapping in some songs and in others they didn't join in with the clapping - this could be improved by making the clapping more obvious or by having more than one person trying to prompt the crowd. 2 of the singers (Matt and Emily) are also still quite nervous on stage which reflects in the audience because they look bored and stiff - this could be sorted out by just having more self-confidence or playing more shows.
Solway Community College - 17/10/18
What went well today and did you enjoy it?
Today, we had more confidence in our performance since we're getting more familiar with performing and we had more prompts for the crowd to join in - it was an enjoyable experience when they also started clapping along.

What went wrong and could this have been prevented?
The crowd wasn't very lively at Solway, which could've been prevented if we tried to get them to cheer or something like that to get them more pumped up for the performance.
My stage presence also isn't very lively still - I feel like this could improve more if I smiled to make myself look more comfortable on stage.
Showcase (Carlisle College) - 18/10/18
What went well today?
We were a lot more confident with our performance than we were on Monday - we all had more of a stage presence than we did before and we were better at getting the audience to join in with us and getting them pumped up.

Did anything go wrong?
I missed the start of a few songs because there was no count in before - this threw me off so I came in late. This would've been better if the drummer gave a 4-beat count in for each song.

Is there anything you could have done to improve you and your bands' performance?
I could've moved somewhere on stage where I'd be more visible to the audience so we had a better overall stage presence as a band.
Also, I could've encouraged my band mates to try and engage the crowd more before we went out on stage since there was no point during the songs where I wasn't playing.

What have you learned from this performance?
I've learned that it's important to get the crowd to join in with songs to make the performance more enjoyable. I've also learned that stage presence is a key part of performing - if you seem bored while performing, the crowd will also be bored.

I've also learned that it's important to look happy on stage even if you aren't so you look more confident than you feel (this makes the performance more enjoyable since none of us really looked very happy while performing).

Also, if one person is slightly off with timing during a song, the rest of the band will also be off throughout the whole song - Emily, for example, didn't know how fast to sing Somebody Else since she started it with just her singing.

Hazel was helpful with knowledge of how to set equipment up so we didn't get any feedback, however, she didn't really speak up a lot to suggest changes we could make to songs - also, when it came to learning parts, even though she did learn the parts it took her a bit longer to be able to play along with the rest of us.

Erin helped a lot with deciding on which songs to do and which key - we both worked out which chords to play for songs - and each session she knew what she was doing and was ready to play the songs through with the rest of us.

Emily also knew what she was doing each session and had learned everything for her parts before coming to the session - however, sometimes her and Matt would break out laughing for a few minutes so it took longer to sort songs out. Also, for Somebody Else she was apprehensive about starting it (however she eventually got over this) so that song also took a bit longer to sort out.

Matt was on time for every session and, like everyone else, knew his parts in songs and knew what he was doing. On the other hand, he disrupted the sessions quite a lot by laughing or just something random he saw and he wasn't very patient with learning harmonies because he didn't feel comfortable with his harmonies.
